EFY Album Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed. A winner has been notified by e-mail! Thanks, everyone for the great response. 🙂

EFY, or Especially for Youth, is held every summer in locations all over North America – a week-long session of classes, devotionals, dances and fun. I attended a few sessions as a youth, and had wonderful experiences making friends and building my testimony. My oldest is going to her first EFY next month, and she cannot wait! I was given the opportunity to review this year’s Especially for Youth CD, “Arise and Shine Forth”, and to also give away one album copy! This is a great album – my first thought was, “perfect music for mutual slideshows!”, and my next thought was, “some of these songs are so beautiful they are making me cry.” For example, go here and listen to track 6 – “I feel My Savior’s Love”. Such a beautiful rendition. Next listen to track 9 – “See it in Everyone”, which may be my favorite on the album. So peppy and happy, and I love the message in the lyrics.

I have one album to giveaway, the deadline to enter is Sunday, June 24. To enter, leave a comment on this post telling me if you want this album for yourself, or for someone else!

YW Prayer and Meditation Lesson

Here’s a handout for YW Manual 1 Lesson 24. I loved the idea for the “invitation” to prayer and meditate, and used a card designed by Teagan White as the basis for the visual aid. Much thanks to Teagan for letting me use her beautiful design.

I made a few adjustments to the original invite as found in the manual, to make it fit in the space I had to work with – like “WHO” being at the bottom instead of the top, and the arrow pointing the Alma scripture into the column under the “WHY” heading. Hope that makes sense! You can download the invite here.

Divine Nature Treat Jar

Our Personal Progress treat jar for June is filled with Cookies and Cream Hershey Kisses.

The blue wrappers go with the value of divine nature, and I’ve made some labels to print on sticker paper, then cut out with a small circle punch. You can download them here.

I’ve put the treats back in my candle vase, which is meant to represent the young women as they arise and let their divine nature shine!

You can see past treat jars here.

Mission Possible Visiting Teaching Message

The June 2012 Visiting Teaching message, “Visiting Teaching – A Sacred Assignment” emphasizes the need for visiting teachers to understand their important spiritual responsibilites, and to prepare to be inspired when visiting. This “secret agent” project is meant to illustrate the importance of visiting teaching assignments. I hung a pair of sunglasses from Dollar Tree on the “file” and attached a tag that reads, “Do not attempt this mission incognito. Let your sisters know who you are and that you care!” After removing the glasses and the tag around the file that reads, “Mission Possible”, you can open the file to read more about the preparations necessary to successfully accomplish the assignment.

I attached a tag to the back of the file that reads, “Love one another” (which makes the card look like a file folder). The inside of the file reads, “Your high and holy calling, should you choose to accept it, is to be a visiting teacher which carries with it an important spiritual responsibility”. The woman graphic is filled with the things we need to prepare ourselves with before visiting our sisters: The Spirit of God, of wisdom, of humility and love”. The upper left side of the file has lines to fill in the names of the sisters you are to love and care for.

As you share this during a visit, you could discuss ways to fulfill these responsibilities as visiting teachers. This could also be a fun part of a visiting teaching conference, when giving out new assignments.

Young Women Class Presidency Agendas

We have been discussing ways to help our Young Women have more effective class presidency meetings, which would give them more meaningful opportunities to serve one another. I went through their responsibilities in the Church Handbook, and tried to list some ideas to help them identify the needs of the girls in their class, and to come up with specific ways to serve those needs:

□  Who was not at church on Sunday or missed a mutual night activity?

□  Can we send notes, emails, or phone calls to tell them we missed them?

□  Does anyone need a reminder or special invitation to attend YW?

□  Who is strugglng with friends, school or family? (Keep confidences!)

□  How might we lighten their load and/or brighten their day?

□  Who is having a birthday soon? Can we do something special for them?

□  How can we extend a special welcome to a new class member?

□  Who is struggling with Personal Progress? How can we help her?

□  How can we help each young woman succeed in Personal Progress?

□  Who seems lonely in your class? How can we show friendship to her?

□  Is there a standard or gospel principle we need to talk about in class?

This list tops a meeting agenda, which you can download here. A black and white version is here. It also has a YW agenda for small units that combine class presidencies into one.

I would encourage the girls to take a class list and an agenda home before the meeting, and to think and pray about each young woman while going over this list. The presidency could then come to the meeting to discuss any thoughts they had about serving and loving those under their stewardship.

Girls Camp Hike

We have another girls camp prep activity coming up – a 5-mile hike with all the girls. We’ve mapped out a nice trail through a local park, and will set out together in a couple weeks. I’ve made a handout to remind them what to bring, and used another Melonheadz illustration. You can download the file here, that you can add your own date and time to.

Mothers Day Button Magnets

I have a fun , fast Mother’s day gift idea for you today. My parents are living out of the country right now, and I had an opportunity to send a quick package to them while my dad returned to the States for a few days. I wanted to make my mom a little something, and loved the idea of these button magnets.

The magnets I used weren’t particularly strong – but the packaging was convenient. The metal disc behind the magnets make them look pretty in the bag, once the buttons are hot-glued on, and I just put them back in their original bag when they were done.

These are fun for home and convenient to toss in your church bag, when you need something to hold up visual aids. You can download the tag I made here. I used a nameplate background from a free download found at Delightful Distractions.
